CONCORD, N.H. — Despite statewide opposition from parents, teachers, students, non-partisan groups, businesses, and mental health advocates, Senate Republicans voted to pass multiple bills that attack the LGBTQ+ community and would worsen the mental health crisis among LGBTQ+ youth. In response, NHDP Chair Ray Buckley released the following statement:
"I am appalled by the incessant and extreme attacks on the LGBTQ+ community by New Hampshire Republicans, which are a stain on our state’s long history of supporting LGBTQ+ rights. Young people want nothing more than to play a sport that brings them joy, community, and camaraderie, and every Senate Republican voted to take that away along with access and coverage for gender-affirming care — all while trying to censor schools from teaching students about gender and sexuality.
"These attacks are part of a larger national strategy to distract voters from Republicans' lack of ideas and solutions to the problems that Granite Staters actually care about, like lowering childcare costs and increasing affordable housing options. Republicans are determined to roll back our personal freedoms, whether it's LGBTQ+ rights or access to safe reproductive health care. That's why we must flip the State House blue, elect a Democrat to the corner office, and re-elect President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris this November."
