RELEASE: New Hampshire Educators Give Sununu a Failing Grade On His COVID Response

Concord, N.H. -- This week, New Hampshire educators gave Chris Sununu a failing grade for his response to the COVID crisis after he attacked teachers for raising concerns about his decision to put his ski resort ahead of New Hampshire’s schools by vaccinating ski patrol members before New Hampshire’s teachers. WMUR: NEA-NH calls for teachers to be added to Phase 1B of vaccinations “For some reason, educators are not in the priority of the governor’s radar right now,” said Megan Tuttle, president of the National Education Association’s New Hampshire chapter… Tuttle said NEA-NH has made multiple requests over the last several weeks to meet with Sununu in-person, but she said the governor's office has yet to respond to the group. NHPR: Teachers seek earlier vaccination window Currently, K-12 teachers in New Hampshire are slated to begin receiving the vaccine in March, in spite of CDC recommendations to put teachers in Phase 1 of vaccine distribution. WMUR: More than 300 teachers, school staff ask Sununu to allow them to be vaccinated “Your administration’s decision not to include K-12 educators in Phase 1 of the vaccine rollout defies CDC guidelines, which say that Phase 1B of the vaccine rollout should prioritize frontline educators -- and also contradicts your public calls for schools to reopen,” the letter reads. “While this alone is cause for concern, we are concerned that you approved members of the ski patrol -- which do not fall under the definition of first responders according to state statute to receive the vaccine in Phase 1A ahead of educators. In addition, according to the Ski Patrol Association, those in line ahead of educators include volunteers, part-time and even out-of-state residents.” “Chris Sununu doubled down on his outrageous position that employees of his ski resort should get vaccinated before our teachers, so it’s no wonder he’s getting a failing grade from New Hampshire’s educators,” said New Hampshire Democratic Party Chair Ray Buckley. “Sununu only cares about benefiting himself, his family, and his donors at the expense of our teachers and students.”
