NHDP Statement on Sununu Signing Anti-Gun Safety Legislation

CONCORD, NH — On Friday, while the country mourned the overturning of Roe v. Wade, Governor Chris Sununu signed a bill blocking any federal law or executive order regarding gun safety in New Hampshire.

Friday also marked the one month anniversary of the mass shooting at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas where 19 students and 2 teachers were killed, prompting national bipartisan calls for common-sense gun legislation — which this law would block.

In response, NHDP spokesperson Monica Venzke has released the following statement:

“Chris Sununu refuses to protect the safety of Granite Staters, and he can’t continue to hide from it. He has spent the entirety of his career cowering to the gun lobby, and this is just the latest example.

Sununu has made it perfectly clear that he prioritizes the NRA and the gun lobby that has historically funded his campaign far more than he values the safety of Granite Staters. While our federal delegation is helping pass bipartisan, common-sense gun safety legislation in Washington, Chris Sununu is fighting to protect gun manufacturers — not Granite Staters. Though he tried to shuffle this law in while the media was focused on SCOTUS’ attack on reproductive rights, we cannot let him go unchecked for this. This is cowardice in its purest form, and he must be held accountable for it.”
