NHDP Statement on Donald Trump’s Town Hall in New Hampshire

CONCORD, NH — As Donald Trump returns to New Hampshire for a CNN town hall, NHDP Chair Ray Buckley released the following statement:

“Donald Trump will spin desperate lies about his record during tonight’s town hall like he does every time he parachutes into our state, but Granite Staters remember how disastrous his presidency was for New Hampshire. You can be sure Trump won’t mention his attempts to rip away our health care access, proposed cuts to Medicare and Social Security programs, paving the way for extreme abortion bans around the country, rigging the economy for the ultra-rich, inciting a violent attack on the Capitol, or undermining our democracy.

“New Hampshire already rejected Trump’s dangerous agenda twice — and we’ll happily do it again.”

This won’t be the first time Trump lies to Granite Staters. Here’s what you need to know about his MAGA record:

SHOT: Vowed to protect Medicaid while campaigning in New Hampshire in 2015.

CHASER: Pushed for cuts to Medicaid funding and expansion — the lifeline for nearly 240,000 Granite Staters — after promising not to on the campaign trail.

SHOT: Promised New Hampshire that he would “easily” take care of Medicare and Social Security without supporting cuts to the programs.

CHASER: Proposed cuts to Medicare, which hundreds of thousands of Granite Staters rely on, every year in office.

SHOT: Promised Granite Staters that he’d bring in “much less expensive, much better health care.”

CHASER: Led the charge as MAGA Republicans tried to repeal the Affordable Care Act, which would end the ACA’s protections for as many as 600,000 Granite Staters with preexisting conditions.

SHOT: Promised New Hampshire voters that he would “work like hell” to address the opioid crisis and help everyone suffering from addiction.

CHASER: Repeatedly tried to slash funding for lifesaving mental health and substance abuse services and gut Medicaid expansion, which helped treat thousands of New Hampshire residents for substance abuse, as the opioid crisis worsened in New Hampshire.

SHOT: Pledged to bring back manufacturing jobs and support New Hampshire’s manufacturing sector, which had seen years of growth.

CHASER: Rigged the economy for the ultra-wealthy instead of working Granite Staters, earning him the worst jobs record since the Great Depression.

SHOT: Promised to lower costs for students.

CHASER: Tried to take an ax to student loan programs that New Hampshire students rely on to pay for college.

SHOT: When asked whether he would sign a national abortion ban last time he was in New Hampshire, Trump said “we’ll get something done where everyone is going to be satisfied.”

CHASER: As president, Trump appointed Supreme Court justices who overturned Roe, paving the way for MAGA Republicans to push extreme abortion bans across the country, and his administration backed a national abortion ban.

SHOT: Took an oath to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution.

CHASER: Undermined our democracy with lies about the 2020 election, which incited a mob to attack the Capitol.
