NHDP Statement Ahead of the One Year Anniversary of the Insurrection on the Nation’s Capitol

CONCORD – Today, ahead of the one year anniversary of the insurrection on the Nation’s Capitol caused by pro-Trump extremists who tried to obstruct the certification of Joe Biden as the next president of the United States, New Hampshire Democratic Party Chair Ray Buckley released the following statement: “Americans watched in horror a year ago as a violent mob, incited by Donald Trump, stormed the United States Capitol in an attempt to overthrow our democracy. The disturbing testimonies, images, and videos of protestors attacking Capitol Police and threatening members of Congress are painful reminders of just how close we came to losing our democracy. “Unfortunately, the attacks on our democracy and our elections have not stopped. Republicans here in New Hampshire have continued to spread Donald Trump’s Big Lie that incited the violent insurrection a year ago. New Hampshire Republicans are using the Big Lie to justify legislation to make it harder for people to vote and to sow doubt in the integrity of our elections — and they’ve made it clear they have no intention of stopping. That is why we must continue to work together to protect the vital right of every eligible citizen to vote, hold those accountable who spread misinformation about the integrity of our elections, and elect leaders who will defend our democracy at every level.”
