In Case You Missed It Kelsey Klementowicz, a voting rights lawyer and former Voter Protection Director for Organize NH and New Hampshire Democratic Party Chair Ray Buckley discussed how H.R. 1, the For the People Act, would prevent billionaires and corporate special interests from buying elections. The For the People Act is the largest anti-corruption bill in a century and is supported by 67 percent of national likely voters, including 56 percent of Republicans, 68 percent of independents, and 77 percent of Democrats.

Kelsey Klementowicz, voting rights lawyer and former Organize NH Voter Protection Director: “The For the People Act would implement things NH successfully did in the 2020 election. For example, in 2020 we had broad absentee voting here in the Granite State and voters turned out in record numbers because they were equipped with the correct information and were able to use the absentee option they needed to register and vote safely. This bill would also build on New Hampshire’s voter outreach efforts by making it easier for eligible voters to register online.”
Ray Buckley, Chair of the New Hampshire Democratic Party: “Anyone who reads the For the People Act understands that it is about combating the dual crises facing our election systems -- corruption and voter suppression. New Hampshire Democrats are so proud of Senator Shaheen, Senator Hassan, Congresswoman Kuster, and Congressman Pappas for their hard work and support of this powerfully important legislation that will rein in the influence of corporations and billionaires in U.S. elections while cracking down on unethical behavior by lawmakers. Let’s be clear, the For the People Act would make it easier for eligible voters to cast their ballot and it will end the influence of special interests and dark money in our political system. This bill takes common-sense steps to combat corruption, in fact, it is the largest anti-corruption bill in a generation.”
