Can’t Trust Kelly: Ayotte’s Ongoing Assault on Planned Parenthood

In the wake of the two-year anniversary of the catastrophic overturning of Roe v. Wade, the New Hampshire Democratic Party is reminding Granite Staters of the ways in which former U.S. Senator and Republican candidate for governor Kelly Ayotte has worked to strip away their reproductive freedom, and why they shouldn’t believe her continued attempts to run away from her lengthy and public anti-choice record.

Throughout her career, Ayotte has worked to strip funding from Planned Parenthood, the largest reproductive health care provider in northern New England. Ayotte’s assaults on Planned Parenthood have not only created barriers to abortion access, but countless other essential healthcare services provided through the organization, including cancer screenings, contraceptive services, general health services like gynecological exams, prenatal care and more.

Here’s why Granite Staters can’t trust Kelly Ayotte to protect access to health care coverage

• As a Senator, Ayotte voted on four separate occasions to defund Planned Parenthood, which would have cut off critical health services to women provided through 700 clinics across the country, which served 2.7 million annual clients.  

• As governor, Ayotte says she will end funding for Planned Parenthood, calling it “a political organization.” Ayotte’s extreme and anti-choice agenda will undercut the healthcare access of over 12,000 Granite Staters that depend on Planned Parenthood services across the state. 

“Kelly Ayotte’s extreme record of defunding Planned Parenthood underscores why Granite Staters can’t trust her: she will undercut women’s access to reproductive healthcare and gut existing funding for healthcare services as a whole,” said Democratic State Representative Alexis Simpson. “Ayotte’s ongoing fight to further restrict and defund healthcare clinics ultimately threatens women’s health across our entire state, which is why Granite State women know they can’t trust Kelly Ayotte, despite her last-minute attempts to re-write her extensive anti-choice record.”
