Biden Releases Plan for Women’s Rights & Economic Security—NH Women Remember Trump’s Broken Promises

Concord, N.H. - Today, as Joe Biden released his Build Back Better Agenda for Women - a comprehensive and aggressive plan to further women’s economic and physical security and ensure that women can fully exercise their civil rights - Granite Staters are reminded of Donald Trump's broken promises to women. “From supporting paid family leave to fighting for equal pay to fighting for access to reproductive health care to protecting the Affordable Care Act, Democrats up and down the ticket have been fighting for progress for Granite State women,” said Holly Shulman, spokeswoman for the New Hampshire Democratic Party. “At the same time, Donald Trump and other Republican politicians will stop at nothing to take away women’s rights - from supporting total bans on abortion, to trying to repeal the Affordable Care Act and its protections for women, to opposing equal pay laws, and opposing paid family leave plans that would allow new moms to stay home with their newborns. In fact, Donald Trump made a series of explicit promises to women while campaigning here in New Hampshire - all of them now a part of his legacy of broken promises.” While campaigning in New Hampshire, Donald Trump made a series of explicit promises to Granite State women - all of which he has since broken. Trump told voters in Hampton, “I will help on women’s health issues more than anybody including on the Democratic side. Women’s health issues, you watch.” [Trump Campaign Rally, Hampton NH, 8/14/15]

  • Reality: Trump went to court to invalidate the entirety of the Affordable Care Act, which prohibits insurers from charging higher rates based on gender and medical history.

  • Reality: Trump’s administration has methodically moved to limit access to birth control and abortion.

Trump told voters in Keene: “Nobody respects women more than I do. I will tell you. That’s true. I will do more. Thank you. It’s true.” [Trump Campaign Rally, Keene NH, 9/30/15]

  • Reality: Trump was caught on camera claiming he has routinely sexually assaulted women, “You know, I’m automatically attracted to beautiful — I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything...Grab ’em by the pussy. You can do anything.”

Trump told voters in Claremont: “I love equal pay. I do.” [Trump Campaign Rally, Claremont NH, 1/5/16]

  • Reality: Donald Trump revoked President Obama's fair pay executive order, tried to block companies from having to report pay by gender, and has defended employers who pay mothers less than men.

Trump told voters in Bedford he would: “Make childcare more affordable and available to families and mothers.” [Trump Campaign Rally, Bedford NH, 9/29/16]

  • Reality: Trump’s tax scam reduced the value of the childcare credit for low- and moderate-income families even as it gave huge tax cuts to big corporations and the wealthiest 1%. And in the midst of a pandemic in which women are disproportionately losing their jobs, Trump scaled back paid leave requirements, leaving 75% of workers at risk of not receiving paid leave for childcare.
