Governor Shapiro to highlight contrast in key New Hampshire governor’s race, Democrats’ vision of opportunity and freedom for all
CONCORD, NH — The New Hampshire Democratic Party announced today that Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro will be the keynote speaker of the 2023 New Hampshire Democratic Party Convention. With a key race for governor and its position as a crucial swing state in the presidential race, New Hampshire is set to play a major role in the 2024 general election.
“In Pennsylvania, we defeated extremism and showed the rest of the country what it looks like to come together behind a vision for a better future – one where we create real opportunity while defending our rights and advancing real freedom for all.” said Governor Shapiro. “New Hampshire voters face a similar choice next November – they will decide a critical open race for Governor and play a central role in reelecting President Biden and retaking the U.S. House of Representatives. I’m grateful for the opportunity to speak to Granite Staters at this critical time for both New Hampshire and our nation’s future and rally with them behind Democratic candidates who, like me, believe government can be a productive force for good.”
Governor Josh Shapiro became Pennsylvania's 48th Governor after his victory in the state's 2022 gubernatorial election. In his first eight months, Governor Shapiro signed into law the largest targeted tax cut for seniors in nearly two decades, created a $400 million workforce training program using federal money to create 10,000 new jobs, secured historic funding increases for public schools, boosted Pennsylvania’s economy, and led the effort to reopen I-95 in just 12 days.

Hearing from Governor Shapiro on his record of accomplishment and success is the perfect kick off to our 2024 election efforts.
In December, Governor Shapiro was selected as the Democratic Governors Association’s Chair of Strategic Engagement, a new role in DGA leadership to maintain and expand the DGA’s relationships with key coalitions. New Hampshire’s governor’s race is widely viewed to be one of the most competitive in the nation and Governor Shapiro’s visit to the Granite State is an important part of his work.

Shapiro knows how to win tough races and build strong coalitions across party lines in order to protect fundamental freedoms and deliver real results for working families,” said DGA Executive Director Meghan Meehan-Draper. “We’re excited to see him bring his winning record to New Hampshire, one of the most critical battlegrounds in the country, where Granite Staters have a chance to elect a governor who will defend their rights and tackle the most pressing challenges facing their state.”
The New Hampshire Democratic Party Convention is a premier Democratic political event in the country. Every national Democratic leader in the last 50 years has spoken at a NHDP convention, attracting sitting presidents, vice presidents, potential presidential candidates, every chairman of the Democratic National Committee and other notable national leaders. In addition to Governor Shapiro, this year's convention will feature members of New Hampshire's federal delegation and state and local Democratic leaders from across the Granite State.
