CONCORD -- The New Hampshire Democratic Party filed a right-to-know request Wednesday calling on Chris Sununu and Education Commissioner Frank Edelblut to release all records regarding Edelblut’s appearance at an event for a far-right fringe organization on Sunday. Edelblut spoke in his official capacity at an event hosted by the Government Integrity Project, a fringe extremist organization that has made false accusations about election fraud in New Hampshire, attacked public health initiatives to mitigate the spread of COVID, and supported chaotic protests against vaccination efforts in New Hampshire, including the protests that disrupted the Executive Council meeting last month. In his remarks, Edelblut encouraged protests against mask requirements in public schools -- requirements recommended by New Hampshire public health officials. “It’s shocking that New Hampshire’s Education Commissioner attended, in his official capacity, a meeting of far-right activists and encouraged them to disrupt our government and local school board meetings,” said NHDP Chair Ray Buckley. “While Chris Sununu continues to refuse to demand Edelblut’s resignation, Granite Staters deserve to know what promises Edelblut made to this far-right group, what influence this group has had over state education policy, and what taxpayer resources were used to facilitate Edelblut’s participation in this fringe political event." The right-to-know request filed with the Governor’s office and the Department of Education asks for any and all records regarding Edelblut’s October 17, 2021 speech to the Government Integrity Project, including but not limited to internal correspondence regarding the event, correspondence with the Government Integrity Project and/or other event organizers, records of honoraria, records of donations and/or purchase of event tickets, remarks, speech drafts, event agendas, event schedules, press advisories, and other relevant materials.
