NHDP Statement on Governor Chris Sununu's Inauguration

Concord, N.H. - Today, Governor Chris Sununu was inaugurated for a second term in office, just two weeks after the Union Leader first reported Sununu’s questionable use of inaugural committee funds, which doled out thousands of dollars to his family and friends. The New Hampshire Democratic Party recently filed a Right to Know request in an effort to get to the bottom of this scandal. Chris Sununu’s inauguration will mark the first time a Republican Governor in New Hampshire has ever worked alongside a Democratic-controlled Executive Council, State Senate, and State House. NHDP Chair Ray Buckley issued the following statement: “Between Governor Sununu’s sketchy use of inaugural funds and Republicans’ corporate-sponsored budget, too many Granite Staters were left behind or forgotten these past two years. When voters elected Democratic majorities to the State Legislature in November, they sent a clear message that they’ve had enough of the GOP status quo.” “As Sununu is inaugurated for his second term, he should keep in mind the will of the voters and work alongside the Democratic majorities to give all Granite Staters the opportunity to succeed. There are countless issues facing New Hampshire that know no political party. If Sununu focuses on the issues that matter and is committed to working in a bipartisan manner with the Democratic state legislature, our government will achieve great things for New Hampshire.”
