Democratic Caucus Also Nominates Paul Smith as House Clerk and Walter Sword as Sergeant at Arms

Concord, N.H. - Today, the New Hampshire House Democratic Caucus nominated State Representative Steve Shurtleff to be Speaker of the House. This nomination comes just over a week after 234 Democratic State Representatives were elected, winning back the State House majority. The Caucus also nominated Paul Smith as House Clerk and Walter Sword as Sergeant at Arms. The final vote on Speaker of the House will take place on December 5th. Nominee for Speaker Steve Shurtleff will appoint the House Majority Leader in the coming weeks. NHDP Chair Ray Buckley issued the following statement: “Congratulations to State Representative Steve Shurtleff on his nomination for Speaker of the House. I am confident that Representative Shurtleff will be a stalwart leader who will move our Party and state forward, always representing the interests of Granite Staters. “Voters elected Democratic majorities to the State House, State Senate, and Executive Council, because they were tired of Republicans like Governor Sununu only looking out for themselves and their high dollar corporate donors. Our State House majority is ready to hold Sununu accountable and make New Hampshire a place where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.”
