Concord, N.H. -- After President Donald Trump spent the weekend once again spewing lies about voter fraud in the 2020 election -- including in New Hampshire -- Republican Congresswoman Liz Cheney slammed Trump’s dangerous comments, igniting another battle in the civil war for the soul of the Republican Party. But Governor Sununu has remained silent -- and refuses to make clear whether he stands with Liz Cheney or Donald Trump in the fight consuming his party. The video of Trump shows him lying about voter fraud in New Hampshire saying, “they found a lot of votes up in New Hampshire you saw that, because this was a rigged election, everybody knows it.” After the video surfaced Cheney said, “We can't embrace the notion the election is stolen. It's a poison in the bloodstream of our democracy,” and that, "We can't whitewash what happened on January 6 or perpetuate Trump's big lie. It is a threat to democracy. What he did on January 6 is a line that cannot be crossed." Despite Trump’s blatant attack on New Hampshire’s elections and the pushback from a prominent leader in the Republican Party, Sununu has remained silent. This is not the first time Sununu has remained silent or even echoed Trump’s lies about voter fraud to put his political future over New Hampshire. After the 2016 election, Sununu pushed Trump’s debunked claim about mass voter fraud in New Hampshire, bragging to a conservative radio host that if he was able to take away young people's right to vote, Trump would “win by a landslide”, and in his inaugural address this year, he perpetuated Trump’s false claim of widespread voter fraud after the 2020 election. “Since Chris Sununu clearly won’t stand up for New Hampshire’s voters or hard working election officials, Granite Staters deserve to know if he stands with Liz Cheney, who rightfully called out Trump’s attacks on our democracy, or Donald Trump, who will continue to spread baseless conspiracy theories to undermine our elections,” said New Hampshire Democratic Party Chair Ray Buckley. “Sununu’s continued silence and refusal to condemn Trump’s dangerous conspiracy theories is another shameful example of how he is willing to risk the future of our democracy to further his political ambitions.”
