Sununu Runs From Record of Failure and Cowardice at WMUR Debate

MANCHESTER, NH — During tonight’s WMUR debate, Chris Sununu once again provided abundant evidence that his tenure as governor has been marked by failure and a lack of accountability.

He signed a budget that contained New Hampshire’s first modern abortion ban — which included no exceptions for rape, incest, or fatal fetal anomaly — tax cuts for millionaires, and a devastating school voucher scheme that has caused New Hampshire property taxes to skyrocket. He vetoed eleven pieces of key legislation that would have expanded our energy options and prevented the energy crisis New Hampshire is in. He has failed to alleviate our severe affordable housing crisis and squandered tens of millions of dollars in federal rental assistance funds.

On the debate stage tonight, he refused to own any of it.

In response, NHDP Chair Ray Buckley released the following statement:

“Chris Sununu’s record is one of failure, lies, and cowardice. That much is crystal clear to anyone watching tonight’s debate.

From allowing our energy prices to skyrocket to protect his campaign donors, signing an abortion ban with no exceptions, to his failure to deliver any relief to a severe housing crisis, Sununu has made it clear that he will never put Granite Staters and our best interests first. Instead, if given another term, he will continue to cower to the far-right, election-denying and anti-choice extremists of his party and put his own national profile over his job as governor.

We deserve so much better. In one week, we need to send Dr. Tom Sherman to the corner office.”
