Sununu Put His Loyalty To Trump First And Refused To Enforce His Own Rules At Trump’s NH Rally

In case you missed it, a new study from the Center for American Progress found “unambiguous increases” in community spread after Sununu put his loyalty to Trump first and refused to enforce his own rules at a Donald Trump Londonderry campaign rally in August.

As a result of Sununu’s loyalty to Trump at New Hampshire’s expense, approximately 80 percent of Trump rally goers at the Londonderry rally refused to wear a mask.

According to the study, “The authors found unambiguous increases after rallies in Mankato, Minnesota; Bemidji, Minnesota; Henderson, Nevada; Londonderry, New Hampshire; Swanton, Ohio; Middletown, Pennsylvania; Old Forge, Pennsylvania; and Newport News, Virginia.” The rally the study references was held on August 28th at Pro Star Aviation.

“While Granite Staters have to follow a set of health and safety rules, Sununu has consistently allowed the Trump campaign to do whatever it wants in New Hampshire showing that his undying loyalty to Donald outweighs whatever little regard he has for the health and safety of the people of this state,” said Ray Buckley, chair of the New Hampshire Democratic Party.

Over the past few months, Sununu has consistently encouraged, enabled, and permitted Donald Trump to behave recklessly in New Hampshire at the expense of Granite Staters’ health and safety:

  • For the first Trump rally in July, New Hampshire public health officials were not consulted at all on the decision to hold a Trump superspreader rally in Portsmouth in the middle of a pandemic.

  • When Sununu was asked if he would encourage Trump to wear a mask at his planned Portsmouth rally, he said, “I'm not gonna make a rule for the president.”

  • Sununu refused to answer whether it was responsible for Trump to hold a New Hampshire rally in July even though it could lead to a spike in COVID-19 cases.

“Chris Sununu gambled with Granite Staters’ health to show his unyielding loyalty to Trump - and now Granite Staters are paying the price,” said Buckley. “Sununu’s gifts to Trump never stop - from supporting his health care repeal and anti-choice agendas to enabling and allowing potential superspreader rallies in New Hampshire, Sununu has proven time and time again that he’s a Trump guy ‘through and through’ at the expense of Granite Staters.”
