MANCHESTER, NH — Last week Planned Parenthood New Hampshire Action Fund PAC endorsed Kevin Cavanaugh for Mayor of Manchester. This endorsement acknowledges Cavanaugh's existing record on protecting abortion rights and his enduring commitment to upholding healthcare access in the Granite State, especially over that of his opponent, NH GOP flunkey Jay Ruais.
The endorsement emphasizes Cavanaugh’s proven track record of championing reproductive health, appreciating the crucial role that Planned Parenthood of Northern New England (PPNNE) plays in fostering the health of Manchester’s community. His advocacy includes supporting Medicaid Expansion, opposing the defunding of PPNNE health centers, and promoting the safety of patients and providers through New Hampshire's patient safety zone.
His opponent, NH GOP lackey Jay Ruais, would be a fervent anti-abortion advocate in Manchester. Ruais was instrumental in enacting Frank Guinta's extreme legislative agenda during his tenure as a key aide and between 2011 and 2016. This period saw Guinta advocating staunch anti-abortion positions, including efforts to reverse Roe v. Wade and defund Planned Parenthood.
Ruais' pivotal role in advancing Guinta's political agenda involved active participation in these anti-abortion actions.
In response to news of the endorsement, NHDP Chair Ray Buckley released the following statement.
"There is a sharp contrast between the mayoral candidates, as illustrated by this endorsement. Cavanaugh’s unwavering commitment to reproductive rights and healthcare access significantly diverges from Jay Ruais’ association to anti-abortion extremism and his work to enact regressive national policies. This mayoral race presents a clear choice between advancing reproductive rights with Cavanaugh or rolling back women’s rights with Ruais."
