NHDP Statement on the Start of Black History Month

In honor of Black History Month, NHDP Senior Advisor Senator Melanie Levesque has released the following statement:

“This month, we take the time to recognize and celebrate Black achievement and Black excellence that has been indispensable to the growth of both New Hampshire and the rest of the nation. From the time of our founding to the present, Black Americans have made a profound impact in the areas of government and culture to make New Hampshire the Granite State that we love today. To honor these extraordinary Americans is to know their history – a history that must be remembered and taught to future generations.

“While we have made tremendous strides in the areas of justice, equity, and inclusion, there is still more work to be done. For this Black History Month, we at the NHDP reaffirm our commitment to continue the work accomplished by so many incredible Black leaders both here in New Hampshire and across the country that will move us closer to a more perfect union. Black history is American history, and I look forward to spending the month sharing and reflecting on the rich history of African Americans in the Granite State.”
