NHDP Statement on the First RNC Presidential Debate

CONCORD, NH — Ahead of the first 2024 Republican primary debate in Milwaukee tonight, NHDP Chair Ray Buckley released the following statement:

“Tonight, the American people will get a primetime look at what we’ve seen for months here in New Hampshire: the most extreme slate of Republican presidential candidates in history clamoring to push the most MAGA agenda possible. Candidates taking the stage tonight have used New Hampshire as a platform to endorse a national abortion ban, express support for cutting crucial programs like Social Security and Medicare, and call to extend tax giveaways to the ultra-rich. Unsurprisingly, they aren’t doing well here — take it from Donald Trump, whose MAGA agenda Granite Staters have rejected twice. “While 2024 Republicans attempt to sell a losing, extreme message tonight, President Joe Biden is focused on fighting for Granite Staters. From building the economy from the bottom up and middle out, to defending reproductive rights, to protecting the freedoms that we cherish most here in New Hampshire, President Biden will continue to deliver for our state in his second term. “The contrast couldn’t be clearer, and we look forward to rejecting whichever out-of-touch MAGA extremist makes it out of this primary here in New Hampshire come next November.”
