NHDP Statement on Sununu Headlining Major NRA Event
CONCORD, NH — This week, the NRA announced that Governor Chris Sununu is joining the likes of Donald Trump, Mike Pence, Kristi Noem, and Jim Jordan to headline their annual forum.
In response, NHDP Chair Ray Buckley released the following statement:
“Chris Sununu has shown time and time again that he values his NRA rating more than the safety of Granite Staters. His record on vetoing common sense gun safety legislation, banning abortion, and supporting the privatization of Social Security and Medicare proves he’s in step with MAGA extremists like Trump and Pence — but he’s completely out of step with the constituents he’s supposed to represent.”
Sununu has an “A” rating from the NRA — and it’s clear why.
The very first bill Sununu signed into law as governor was anti-gun safety legislation that the New Hampshire Association of Chiefs of Police called “dangerous.”
He has vetoed three separate pieces of gun safety legislation and signed legislation that repealed licensing requirements on carrying a concealed firearm.
After the tragic mass shooting in Uvalde, where 19 children and two teachers were murdered by a gunman, Sununu said that we ‘aren’t looking to make any changes in firearms policy.’
On the anniversary of that day, he signed a bill blocking any federal law or executive order regarding gun safety in New Hampshire.
