CONCORD, NH — Ahead of DeSantis’ meetings with extreme Republican lawmakers in New Hampshire today, NHDP Chair Ray Buckley released the following statement:
“Ron DeSantis’ crusade to bring his extreme Florida abortion ban nationwide is the crux of his presidential campaign, so it’s no surprise that the Republicans endorsing him in New Hampshire — spearheaded by House Majority Leader Jason Osborne — are pushing the same dangerous agenda to restrict reproductive freedoms. No matter which extreme candidate wins the GOP nomination next year, New Hampshire Democrats stand united in pushing back against their dangerous attacks on our basic freedoms.”
After signing an abortion ban with no rape or incest exceptions last year, DeSantis went further and signed one of the most extreme abortion bans in the country into law last month, which bans abortion before many women know they’re pregnant and threatens to throw doctors in jail. His agenda has already forced women in Florida into life-threatening situations.
Here’s a snapshot of the extreme agenda that DeSantis’ New Hampshire endorsers have pushed:
State House Majority Leader Jason Osborne, who is one of DeSantis’ top endorsers in NH, has voted for:
NH’s first modern abortion ban, which has no exceptions for rape or incest.
A near-total abortion ban, which has no exceptions for rape or incest — one of the strictest proposals in the country.
Every single NHGOP legislator endorsing DeSantis voted against repealing NH’s current abortion ban, which has no exceptions for rape or incest. Signed into law by Governor Chris Sununu, this law is NH’s first modern abortion ban.
All but one endorser voted against legislation to codify abortion rights in New Hampshire earlier this year.
The overwhelming majority of endorsers voted against repealing criminal penalties voted against repealing criminal penalties for abortion providers.
