NHDP Statement on Rockingham 1st District Special Election Victory

NORTHWOOD, NH — In response to Hal Rafter’s seat-flipping win in the Rockingham 1st District special election, NHDP Chair Ray Buckley released the following statement.

“The New Hampshire Democratic Party would like to congratulate Representative-Elect Hal Rafter on his resounding victory in the special election for Northwood and Nottingham. Rafter has successfully defeated his radical Republican opponent, James Guzofski.

“This win is a rejection of the extreme agenda of NH Republicans and shows that NH Democrats are on the path towards the majority in 2024. By flipping this seat we have won 8 of the last 9 special elections since the 2020 election and have shown once again New Hampshire Democrats are unmatched in running special election programs, here or anywhere else in the United States.

“We want to thank Representative-Elect Rafter for running a fantastic campaign, House Democratic Leader Matt Wilhelm, the House Democrats’ Democratic Victory Campaign Committee led by Rep. Laura Telerski and its phenomenal staff and volunteers without whom this win could not be possible. We also want to thank the people of Northwood and Nottingham for showing up for their community.”
