NHDP Statement on NH GOP’s Latest Voter Suppression Bill

CONCORD, NH – Today, Sherm Packard (R-Londonderry) led Republicans in the State House in voting to pass SB 418, a voter suppression bill that would endanger the secret ballot, violate voters’ privacy rights, and overturn how New Hampshire has conducted elections for decades by making same day registration more complicated and difficult. In response, NHDP Chair Ray Buckley released the following statement:

“New Hampshire is the gold standard when it comes to elections. Despite that, House Republicans in Concord are once again attempting to inject the Big Lie and debunked conspiracy theories about voter fraud into our democracy, casting doubt and mistrust on the thankless efforts of our municipal election workers.

“Making it harder for overseas military personnel and college students to vote doesn’t make our Democracy more secure. Making sure all eligible Granite Staters are able to participate makes our Democracy stronger. The NH GOP’s unchecked descent into autocracy needs to stop.”
