NHDP Statement on NH GOP’s Latest Attack on LGBTQ+ Youth
CONCORD, NH — In response to the passing of HB 1431, the NH GOP’s latest attack on our teachers and LGBTQ+ community, NHDP Chair Ray Buckley has released the following statement:
“I am absolutely disgusted by HB 1431, which is nothing short of the NH GOP’s version of a ‘Don’t Say Gay Bill.’ This legislation is just one part of a nationwide effort by the far-right to further attack our teachers, undermine our education, and attack some of the Granite State’s most vulnerable."
LGBTQ+ youth are already a particularly at risk-group, with over 50% having seriously considered suicide. As someone who grew up as a gay kid in New Hampshire, my great and supportive teachers were instrumental in me becoming the out and proud gay man I am today. In a state that has a long history of LGBTQ+ support and progress, seeing this legislation pass is gut-wrenching.”
