NHDP Statement on Kevin Smith Filing to Run for US Senate

Today, former Londonderry Town Manager Kevin Smith filed his U.S. Senate candidacy with the NH Secretary of State’s office. In response, NHDP Chair Ray Buckley released the following statement:

“Maggie Hasn’t ever sold out New Hampshire — but you can bet Kevin Smith will. If Smith were in the U.S. Senate, he would be nothing more than a yes vote for Mitch McConnell, Big Pharma, Big Oil, and a nationwide abortion ban. Smith has spent this campaign ignoring the concerns of Granite Staters and instead shilling for corporate special interests and sucking up to McConnell and his henchmen.”

BACKGROUND:

• Smith has doubled down on his extreme, anti-choice agenda since announcing his campaign for U.S. Senate. Smith said he supports the Supreme Court’s draft decision to overturn Roe and told his supporters that “we are SO close to ending abortion once and for all.”

• Smith also opposes Senator Hassan’s proposal to suspend the gas tax for which he has received criticism from members of his own party.
