On a far-right radio show today, former President Donald Trump said that Russian President Vladimir Putin is a “genius,” “smart,” and “savvy” for invading Ukraine, and that the United States “could use that on our southern border.” Trump is still widely seen as the leader of the Republican Party and has made it clear he plans to get involved in the NH GOP Senate primary. And Chuck Morse, Don Bolduc, and Kevin Smith are all actively seeking Donald Trump’s endorsement.
In response, NHDP Chair Ray Buckley released the following statement calling on the NH GOP Senate candidates to condemn Trump’s dangerous comments:
“Chuck Morse, Kevin Smith, and Don Bolduc must swiftly condemn Donald Trump for praising Vladimir Putin as he invades Ukraine. All three candidates have gone out of their way to seek Donald Trump’s endorsement, and their failure to condemn his pro-Kremlin comments raises the chilling prospect that like Donald Trump, they will be nothing more than apologists for Vladimir Putin in the US Senate.”
