OVERVIEW: With all the national coverage surrounding Mom's for Liberty, it is important to highlight the extent to which the New Hampshire Republican Party this week has solidified its support for the extremist hate group and explore their ties in the state.
The NH GOP's decision to fully back the group doubles-down on a years-long losing strategy by statewide Republicans that has resulted in multiple major electoral and legislative defeats on the back of a bitterly conservative education agenda.
The scandal-plagued group, which has made headlines both locally and nationally for its extreme conduct and vocal backing of hate speech — is best known for pushing anti-LGBTQ+ and racist book bans. In June the organization was labeled an “extremist group” by the Southern Poverty Law Center.
Mom’s For Liberty has deep connections to extremist groups nationally — and locally to the Free State Project
Reporting has found that Mom’s For Liberty chapters across the country have long-standing ties to the Proud Boys, QAnon conspiracists, and Christian nationalists.
Featured speakers at a recent summit for the group included North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, who believes teaching children about sexual orientation and gender identity is child abuse, homosexuality is “filth” and the transgender rights movement is “demonic” and “full of the Antichrist spirit”;
Former Executive Director of the Free State Project, Rachel Goldsmith heads up the Mom’s for Liberty NH Chapter. Goldsmith is married to Jeremy Kauffman, who sits on the board of the Free State Project. Kauffman was recently indicted by the SEC for running a cryptocurrency scam.
Kauffman has described New Hampshire Republican school voucher scheme — undemocratically passed via a budget amendment — as "a stepping stone towards reducing or eliminating state involvement in schools" and acknowledges that "the entire program is run by Free Staters."
Mom’s For Liberty have made Adolf Hitler a central figure in their campaign
Mom’s for Liberty has come under fire in recent days for multiple references to Adolf Hitler.
The Hamilton County, Indiana chapter of Moms for Liberty, recently published a newsletter that carried a quote from Adolf Hitler: “He alone, who OWNS the youth, gains the future.”
Following the publication of the newsletter, Mom’s For Liberty co-founder Tiffany Justice defended the quote, saying she would “stand with that mom.”
Mom’s For Liberty has offered cash bounties on New Hampshire teachers
In 2021, the group offered cash bounties on New Hampshire teachers prompting national attention for the New Hampshire branch. The bounties were offered to those found in violation of the NH GOP’s “divisive concepts” legislation, which creates penalties around teachers found in violation of a Republican-passed law which bars discussions of race and gender in New Hampshire classrooms.
Even Republican Governor Chris Sununu condemned Mom’s For Liberty following the announcement of the bounty program, saying through a spokesman: “The Governor condemns the tweet referencing ‘bounties’ and any sort of financial incentive is wholly inappropriate and has no place.”
KEY TAKEAWAYS: By solidifying their relationship with Mom’s for Liberty, statewide Republican leaders have signaled they have no intention of moving away from their bitterly conservative strategy on education, despite mounting losses at the ballot box and at the State House. NH GOP leaders are moving in lock-step with national Republican priorities of demonizing the LGBTQ+ community, banning books, and promoting racist rhetoric and policy, and, in so doing, moving away from the priorities of everyday Granite Staters.
