At an event hosted by the Koch-backed Americans for Prosperity group, Chuck Morse said that if he was in the US Senate with Mitch McConnell, he would support shutting down the United States government and bragged about trying to ban abortion for fifty years. There’s a lot to unpack here. Americans for Prosperity, a far-right special interest group founded by the Kochs invited Morse to speak at their event today. Americans for Prosperity has a well-established history of funneling dark money to help pro-corporate special interest candidates like Morse, who already has faced backlash for having two corporate special interest lobbyists on his payroll. During the event, Morse confirmed that he would vote to shut down the government if McConnell wanted him to, saying, "in order to fight, you may have to have a little bit of pain financially.” Morse, who has been called the “key architect” of the Republican abortion ban also said that he's been trying to ban abortion in New Hampshire for fifty years. This comes just a week after Morse led Republicans in a vote against adding exceptions for rape, incest, or fatal fetal anomaly to his abortion ban. “Mitch McConnell and corporate special interests know they have a Senate candidate in Chuck Morse, who said he will stand in lockstep with McConnell’s obstructionist agenda that includes raising prescription drug costs and rolling back reproductive rights,” said NHDP Chair Ray Buckley. “Chuck Morse will do everything he can to keep McConnell’s dark money flowing to his campaign and in return, he’ll offer his loyalty to McConnell at Granite Staters’ expense.”
