ICYMI: Unhinged NH GOP State Rep Goes Viral After Meltdown on State House Steps

In Case You Missed It, Rep. Susan DeLemus (R-Rochester) was filmed screaming at people attending a peaceful demonstration in front of the New Hampshire State House Thursday morning. Video from the encounter went viral online, prompting coverage from news outlets nationwide and overseas.

Rep. DeLemus is the wife of Gerald A. DeLemus, who was recently released from serving six years in federal prison for his role in an armed standoff with federal authorities at a ranch in Nevada.

A far-right group she started with her husband, the Rochester 9/12 Project, has previously hosted Governor Chris Sununu, illustrating that Rep. DeLemus is not alone in her extremism, and instead stands as another example of the extreme, anti-choice agenda of Sununu and his NH GOP.

  • And for all the caution Republican strategists might advise, there is still the passion of the issue. New Hampshire State Representative Susan DeLemus was filmed responding to abortion-rights protesters at the State Capitol in Concord, N.H., on Thursday by screaming that they were “murderers.”

  • The incident occurred as protests erupt around the country amid uproar over the leaked Supreme Court draft majority opinion that would overturn Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 decision that gave women the right to access abortions.

  • The protest outside the New Hampshire State House came after news broke of a leaked draft opinion in which Supreme Court Associate Justice Samuel Alito called the 1973 landmark Supreme Court ruling that legalized abortions nationwide "egregiously wrong from the start."

  • Democratic State Representative Chuck Grassie also accused DeLemus of being an "embarrassment" to Rochester, the district she represents. "She has no concern about the decorum and how a state representative should act," Grassie told the Fosters Daily Democrat. "No matter how you feel, you should respect people's free speech rights. If this goes viral nationally, all people will see is she's a representative from Rochester. If we want to grow our community and image, that isn't the kind of news or image we want to project."

  • Protesters were heard shouting “shame on you” right before DeLemus was seen pointing at protesters screaming “Shame on you, shame on all of you. Shame on you, killing babies.” It then escalated to her pointing at the crowd, repeatedly screaming “You’re a murderer!”

  • DeLemus is no stranger to this website. Back in 2015, Mediaite noted she was featured in a CNN segment about “regular voters,” but the network omitted the minor detail that she’s a Republican state representative. Rather bizarrely, she claimed she had never been interested in politics until Donald Trump declared his candidacy for president in June of that year – despite the fact she was first elected to the legislature in 2010.

  • Protesters were heard shouting “shame on you” right before DeLemus was seen pointing at protesters screaming “Shame on you, shame on all of you. Shame on you, killing babies.” It then escalated to her pointing at the crowd, repeatedly screaming “You’re a murderer!”
