ICYMI: New Hampshire Leaders Call On Gov. Sununu to Immediately Condemn Donald Trump's False Claims

Does Chris Sununu Stand With Donald Trump or Liz Cheney in the Republican Civil War?

In Case You Missed It, State Representative Manny Espitia, President of NH Young Democrats, Zandra Rice Hawkins, Executive Director of Granite State Progress, and Ray Buckley, Chair of the New Hampshire Democratic Party called on Governor Sununu to condemn Donald Trump’s false claims of voter fraud and make clear who he stands with in the Republican civil war: Donald Trump or Liz Cheney. Days after a video came to light of former President Donald Trump once again spewing lies about voter fraud in New Hampshire, saying, “they found a lot of votes up in New Hampshire you saw that, because this was a rigged election, everybody knows it,” Governor Chris Sununu has remained silent while prominent members of the Republican Party like Congresswoman Liz Cheney have slammed Trump’s comments as “a poison in the bloodstream of our democracy.” Read excerpts from their remarks below and watch the press conference here. Ray Buckley, Chair of the New Hampshire Democratic Party: “At this moment, Republicans in DC are pushing Liz Cheney from the party for speaking the truth, and rejecting the Big Lie and Trump’s continued attacks on our democracy. The Governor should make clear where he stands in this latest Republican Civil War — with Liz Cheney or Donald Trump. The Governor's silence only aids and abets Donald Trump’s dangerous lies.” State Representative Manny Espitia, President of NH Young Democrats:The Republican party is in civil war right now. Liz Cheney was forced out of her role in House leadership for simply telling the truth about who won the election. I’m a Democrat — and I’m no fan of Liz Cheney’s policy positions or her record — but it is frankly embarrassing that a Congresswoman from Wyoming is willing to defend the integrity of New Hampshire’s and America’s election results while our Governor refuses to say anything. It is time for Chris Sununu to decide what side he is on.” Zandra Rice Hawkins, Executive Director of Granite State Progress: “[Sununu’s] silence on Donald Trump now is just part of a longer pattern of the Governor refusing to stand up to the former President — and in many cases actually echoing his words. It should not be hard to debunk what Donald Trump is saying. Yet instead of correcting the record and standing up for New Hampshire when Trump attacks the state, the Governor is nowhere to be found. The Governor is being cowardly. While Republicans like Liz Cheney and Mitt Romney have clearly called out the Big Lie — Governor Sununu has said nothing. Even when his own state is under attack.”
