Hansel Supports States Banning Abortion with No Exception for Rape or Incest

CONCORD, NH — George Hansel, a Republican primary candidate in New Hampshire’s Second District, continues to make empty claims that he is "pro-choice." But, he supports politician-control of abortion and stands behind dangerous policies that restrict access to care. Since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, eight states — Arkansas, Alabama, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, South Dakota, Tennessee, and Texas — have put in place extreme abortion bans that make no exception for survivors of rape or incest. Despite these extremely dangerous laws, Hansel believes that states regulate abortion access “pretty well.”

In response to this backward and dangerous policy position, NHDP spokesperson Monica Venzke released the following statement:

“Granite Staters know when a politician is lying to them. New Hampshire voters are overwhelmingly in favor of keeping the government out of personal and private medical decisions, including abortion. George Hansel cannot claim to be pro-choice while continuously supporting states’ extreme policies and politicians that restrict access to care for those who need it most and criminalize doctors who treat their patients.”
