Ahead of the NHPR/PBS debate tomorrow with Senator Maggie Hassan and Don Bolduc, here are the four issues Don Bolduc has lied about over the course of the general election.
1. Don Bolduc Is Misleading Granite Staters About His Extreme, Anti-Choice Agenda. Don Bolduc’s record makes it clear that he would be a yes vote for a nationwide abortion ban. Bolduc gave a “full-throated endorsement of abortion restrictions” when he said he would “not compromise on” his anti-abortion positions and would not “vote contrary to pro-life” positions during the Republican primary. When Roe was overturned, Bolduc said we should “rejoice.” He has said that New Hampshire’s abortion ban does not go far enough, and said that in the Senate, “I am always going to default for a system that protects lives from beginning to the end.” And in the past few weeks alone, Bolduc said that he wanted to ban IVF treatments, and said that “as a man” he thinks that the future of abortion rights “belongs” to “gentlemen” Republican politicians.
2. Don Bolduc Is Lying About His Record Of Wanting To End Social Security And Medicare. Don Bolduc wants to end Social Security and Medicare as we know it. Bolduc said Social Security is “bankrupting” the country, he thinks the program was “for a different time, for a different place,” and he said he would work until “we no longer have Social Security,” which he called to cut “$2 trillion from.” He also said that when it comes to Social Security, “it’s time for change.” In August, Bolduc promised to end Medicare as we know it — hurting the 307,000 Granite Staters currently enrolled in the program. Bolduc wants to cut $1.2 trillion from Medicare and has said that “the privatization is hugely important” when it comes to Medicare.
3. Don Bolduc Is Being Dishonest About His Record Of Opposing Common Sense Solutions To Lower Costs. Time and again, Don Bolduc has come out in opposition to common sense solutions to lowering costs for Granite Staters. Bolduc said he would have voted “hell no” to Medicare negotiating prescription drug prices, the CHIPS and Science Act to lower the costs of everyday goods and make more things in America, and he said he would oppose tax credits to lower home energy costs. Bolduc also opposed Senator Maggie Hassan’s gas tax holiday proposal to lower prices at the gas pump.
4. Don Bolduc Is Trying To Run From His Record Of Saying The Election Was Stolen From Donald Trump. In August, Don Bolduc reaffirmed that he believes that the 2020 election was stolen from Donald Trump and reminded voters that he “signed a letter with 120 other generals and admirals saying that Trump won the election. And dammit, I stand by my letter. I'm not switching horses, baby. This is it.” In September, Bolduc went on a far-right podcast questioning why his debunked election denial claims weren’t landing well with Granite Staters, saying, “The narrative that the election was stolen, it does not fly up here in New Hampshire for whatever reason.” Don Bolduc is already laying the groundwork to challenge the results of the 2022 election if they don’t go his way, and he said he would “walk the walk” about not certifying the results of the 2024 election if Trump doesn’t win.
