Donald Trump stacked SCOTUS with justices to overturn Roe — now he wants a national abortion ban
CONCORD, NH — In response to new reporting by the New York Times further detailing Donald Trump’s plans to pass a nationwide abortion ban if elected, NHDP Chair Ray Buckley issued the following statement:
“It’s no surprise Donald Trump wants a nationwide abortion ban — with the help of Kelly Ayotte, he stacked the U.S. Supreme Court with justices to overturn Roe v. Wade, and now he’s previewing his plans to completely take away Granite Staters’ reproductive freedom,” said Chairman Buckley. “While President Joe Biden and Democrats in New Hampshire stand with Granite Staters who overwhelmingly support access to abortion, every single Republican elected official and candidate in our state now owns Donald Trump’s extreme agenda and his crusade to take away reproductive rights.”
Today wasn’t the first time Donald Trump expressed his desire to ban abortion nationwide — and he has the record to prove it:
On the anniversary of the overturning of Roe v. Wade, Trump endorsed an extreme national abortion ban.
Trump has also commented he was “proud” to have “terminated” reproductive rights — kind of like the time he bragged that he “was able to kill Roe v. Wade.”
Trump even insisted “there would be no [six-week ban]” without him.
He's repeatedly bragged that “nobody has ever done more” than him to pave the way for ripping away women’s freedom to make their own health care decisions.
Trump’s administration backed a national abortion ban, and Trump even called for punishing women for having an abortion.
Trump's advisors have drafted plans to unilaterally block women in every state from accessing medication abortion, and doctors and patients could even be threatened with jail time for sending or receiving abortion medication in the mail.
Make no mistake, Donald Trump hasn’t worked alone. Gov. Sununu signed New Hampshire’s first modern abortion ban, a ban with no exceptions for rape or incest and that would put doctors in prison for performing the procedure — and has repeatedly bragged about it. The Republican candidates for Governor are ready to force even more extreme restrictions on the Granite State, including vowing to defund Planned Parenthood, if elected:
Kelly Ayotte:
Ayotte led the charge in the US Senate in overturning Roe v. Wade, and her historic blocking of President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee played a large role in that historing rolling back of abortion rights.
In 2006, as attorney general, Ayotte took Planned Parenthood to the Supreme Court fighting for unconstitutional abortion restrictions here in New Hampshire.
During her time in the Senate, Ayotte championed a national abortion ban and backed policy allowing pharmacists to refuse filling prescriptions for birth control on religious grounds.
Chuck Morse:
Morse is the “key architect” of the first abortion ban in modern New Hampshire history, which made no exceptions for rape, incest, or fatal fetal anomaly, mandated ultrasounds, and imposed felony penalties and prison time on doctors.
Morse voted four times against adding exceptions for rape, incest, or fatal fetal anomaly to the abortion ban, cast the deciding vote against enshrining Roe v. Wade into state law.
Morse also celebrated the end of Roe.
