CONCORD, NH — Today, NHDP Chair Ray Buckley, Dr. Wayne Goldner, and Michelle Cilley Foisy held a virtual press conference addressing Kelly Ayotte's long record of promoting and supporting anti-abortion legislation just hours ahead of her official kickoff in Manchester
After announcing her campaign, Ayotte was quick to proclaim New Hampshire has no abortion ban, despite her would-be predecessor Chris Sununu having previously bragged about signing the first modern ban in the history of the state.
Ayotte has a long history of opposing abortion services and blocking funding for Planned Parenthood. As a former Senator, Ayotte advocated for and supported legislation to roll back women’s reproductive rights. Despite the fact that the vast majority of Granite Staters support access to safe and legal abortion. Remarks from speakers:
“The most recent Republican to formally announce their bid has not shown her face in New Hampshire politics since her embarrassing re-election defeat in 2016,” said NHDP Chair Ray Buckley. “ Ayotte has made no effort to hide her extreme views on abortion. For years, she has advocated for and supported legislation that rolls back women’s reproductive rights, and personally set the stage for Donald Trump’s Supreme Court to overturn Dobbs by Blocking President Barack Obama’s Supreme Court nominee.”
I was one of the plaintiffs in Ayotte v. Planned Parenthood of Northern New England et al (I was al) that brought the 2005 legal challenge against an unconstitutional parental notification law that Attorney General Kelly Ayotte appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court, against the wishes of Governor Lynch… I believe that her being elected Governor would open the gates to turning back women’s rights by decades if not centuries, which is unacceptable under any circumstances.”
Kelly Ayotte campaigned on a promise to overturn Roe v. Wade” said Michelle Cilley Fosiy, “She made that possible by helping to confirm Neil Gorsuch. Now, without any federal or state protections for abortion rights in New Hampshire, she wants to continue her attacks on reproductive health care as our state’s next governor. Moms like me won’t let her. Watch full remarks from today’s press call here.
