After Victory in Kansas, Sununu Still Refuses to Protect Abortion Rights

Chris, I’ve got a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore! Well, maybe you are. You’re never in New Hampshire.

CONCORD, NH – Last night, voters in Kansas overwhelmingly rejected the extreme, anti-choice Republican agenda and protected abortion access in the state.

Meanwhile, in New Hampshire, Governor Sununu is refusing to take any action to protect abortion rights and is continuing to campaign for anti-choice extremists out of state and here in New Hampshire. Granite Staters are resoundingly pro-choice, and have made their opposition to Sununu’s abortion ban loud and clear.

While Sununu’s Executive Council is defunding Planned Parenthood and other family planning centers for the fourth time in a year, Granite Staters are begging him to take action to protect their right to choose.

In response, NHDP spokesperson Monica Venzke released the following statement:

“What happened last night in Kansas demonstrates both the power of grassroots activism and the overwhelming opposition to the Republican effort to strip women of our fundamental right to choose.

Here in New Hampshire, Governor Sununu has continued to cower to the NH GOP’s extreme anti-choice agenda. Instead of heeding the repeated calls from his constituents to protect abortion access, he has spent his days campaigning for anti-choice candidates and refusing to commit to not signing more abortion restrictions.

The right to choose is a fundamental New Hampshire value, and the NH GOP’s anti-choice agenda is out of step with Granite Staters. We may not be able to click our heels three times and oust Sununu, but in less than 100 days, we can send Sununu packing and elect a governor who will protect our reproductive rights.”
