Concord, N.H. - Today, State Senator Donna Soucy was elected New Hampshire Senate President with unanimous support from the incoming Senate body. Since 2012, Senate President Donna Soucy has represented the 18th Senate district in New Hampshire, which covers Manchester Wards, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and Litchfield. Throughout her tenure in the State Senate, Senate President Soucy has established herself as a bipartisan lawmaker, focused on delivering real results to her constituents, including helping children and families, workers, and women. Senate President Soucy was taught from an early age the value of public service from her parents, C. Arthur Soucy and Lillian Soucy. C. Arthur was an institution in Manchester, serving as both Alderman and, for 50 years, serving on a city commission. He was also the longtime Chair of the Manchester City Democrats. Lillian was State Representative, serving as the Assistant Democratic Leader. Following in her parents’ footsteps, Senate President Soucy has served as both a State Representative and Manchester Alderman, before running for the State Senate. NHDP Chair Ray Buckley issued the following statement: “My sincerest congratulations to Senate President Donna Soucy on her unanimous election to this post. I have no doubt that Senate President Soucy will serve her office with distinction, bringing the values and work ethic she has used to help her constituents, to the office of the Senate President. “In this year’s midterm elections, voters sent a clear message that they are tired of the corporations-first agenda Republicans in office pushed for the past two years. Under the leadership of Senate President Soucy, the new Democratic majority is ready to advocate for and implement a legislative agenda that will give all Granite Staters the opportunity to succeed.”
