Two years ago today, the Washington Post released the infamous Access Hollywood tape in which Donald Trump bragged about how he sexually assaulted women. Unlike many Republicans, this didn’t stop Chris Sununu from wholeheartedly supporting Trump, as he wasted no time saying that was he was “sticking with his support for Mr. Trump.” As governor, Sununu has said that he has a “zero-tolerance” policy on sexual misconduct, despite continuing to support Trump, refusing to call for the resignation of State Representative Eric Schleien, who was charged with sexually assaulting a minor, and supporting Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court after he faced multiple allegations of sexual assault. NHDP Chairman Ray Buckley issued the following statement:
“When the Access Hollywood tape came out, I was appalled that Chris Sununu unequivocally defended Donald Trump. When others in his own party were willing to speak up and do the right thing, even if it cost them politically, Sununu put loyalty to his party above the interests of New Hampshire and the country.
“Two years later, Sununu still stands by Trump. But New Hampshire voters want a governor who will stand up to Trump, not carry out his agenda here in the Granite State. Sununu will pay the price for his cowardly submission to Trump when he is voted out of office on November 6th.”
