Concord, N.H. - Yesterday, NHGOP Chair Jeanie Forrester joined Governor Sununu's attacks on Councilor Volinsky, who shared a memo with the Attorney General that revealed possible money laundering by the New Hampshire Liquor Commission. Rather than supporting an attempt to find the truth through an investigation, Republicans have been content to dismiss Councilor Volinsky's fact finding approach while neglecting to address his claims. NHDP Chair Ray Buckley issued the following statement: “Why are Governor Sununu and New Hampshire Republicans are working so hard to attack Councilor Volinsky rather than getting to the bottom of this deeply troubling situation? Attorney General MacDonald has yet to disagree with Governor Sununu on a major issue. Sununu's vocal criticism of Volinsky rather than the Liquor Commission's alleged behavior raises questions about the Attorney General's capacity to conduct an unbiased investigation through his office. The interstate nature of these allegations paired with the Republicans’ decision to politicize the issue make the FBI, not New Hampshire’s Attorney General, best equipped to investigate this matter. Councilor Volinsky’s interest is simply to get to the bottom of what he saw as a serious legal violation. Most governors and state parties would have the same interest and it’s disappointing to see Sununu and the NHGOP are instead motivated to obscure the investigation with political attacks. ”
