Concord, N.H. - Today, after his closed-door meeting with Vice President Pence, Sununu tried to grossly mislead the people of New Hampshire about the fact that hundreds of thousands of Granite Staters will be hurt by the GOP tax bill. Sununu said of the GOP tax bill: "At the end of the day, this will be a net positive for the majority of low and middle income families in this country." But here are the facts: Reality Check: This bill is projected to raise taxes on households earning less than $75,000 a year by 2027, according to the Joint Committee on Taxation. That amounts to 482,470 Granite Staters, 70% of New Hampshire taxpayers. Reality Check: The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) found that Americans earning less than $30,000 a year would see a tax increase by 2019 because of the Trump tax plan. Reality Check: The non-partisan Tax Policy Center projects that half of the households in the United States, including 60% of middle class families, would see a tax increase starting in 2027. Reality Check: A Joint Committee on Taxation analysis revealed that at the same time as all taxpayers earning less than $75,000 a year would see a tax increase, those earning $1 million or more would pay $5.6 billion less in taxes. Reality Check: The bill includes a provision to partially repeal the Affordable Care Act, which the CBO estimates will kick 13 million Americans off health insurance and raise insurance premiums 10 percent per year. Ohio Republican Governor John Kasich called this provision "a non-starter." The CBO also said today that the damage caused by the tax bill would not be able to be made up by a bipartisan healthcare proposal like Alexander-Murray. Reality Check: The House version of the tax bill, in addition to raising taxes on 70% of Granite Staters, is projected to benefit President Trump's family to the tune of an additional $1 billion, further demonstrating that Sununu favors helping his friends, donors & corporate special interests at the expense of working families.
