NHDP Statement: Does Governor Sununu back Trump's Executive Order to sabotage ACA?

Concord, N.H. - Today, President Trump signed an Executive Order stripping protections guaranteed under the Affordable Care Act. The order will increase ACA premiums, diminish protections for those with preexisting conditions, undermine markets across the country, and offer junk insurance. In New Hampshire, Insurance Commissioner Roger Sevigny said steep premium increases in the state are the result of federal uncertainty, and today Trump is introducing a series of measures that will cast the markets into even deeper uncertainty. NHDP Chair Ray Buckley issued the following statement: "President Trump is throwing insurance markets into chaos with his sabotage of the Affordable Care Act, hurting thousands of New Hampshire families in the process. All the while, Governor Sununu has backed versions of Trumpcare, proposed damaging Medicaid block grants, and recommended provisions to allow states to opt out of providing coverage for substance use disorder, mental health, and women's health. He has rejected the New Hampshire Insurance Department's reinsurance proposal. New Hampshire has to ask: will Governor Sununu stand up to this clear attempt to undermine their health insurance, spike ACA premiums, and give Granite Staters junk insurance, or will he continue to be complicit in Trump's shameful sabotage of the Affordable Care Act?"
