Concord, N.H. - At an impromptu press conference held today at Trump Tower - one that even the White House is refusing to defend - President Trump used false equivalence to defend Nazis, Klansmen, and white supremacists, equated Robert E. Lee and George Washington, and referred to the alt-right as 'us.' Trump's comments are a 180-degree reversal from his teleprompter comments on Monday. NHDP Chair Ray Buckley issued the following statement: "President Trump's comments today are without a doubt the most shameful of his presidency. Contrary to what the President of the United States says, there is only one evil side: Nazis, Klansmen, and white supremacists. Time and again, Republicans fall for the empty words given to Trump to read, sidestepping and ignoring the glaring reality of his true thoughts and opinions. Now more than ever, we need our Republican leaders to take meaningful steps to condemn President Trump to protect and defend American values. Governor Sununu and other Republican leaders in New Hampshire cannot remain silent or defend President Trump's dog-whistling. As we learned this weekend, American lives are at stake and we will not stop standing up to hate wherever it rears its ugly head."
